I have a deep love for Satan as a fictional character. Satan, in his most iconic form as a great horned demon, fits perfectly within the realm of medieval fantasy in my mind, and the idea of him as a leader of legions of undead and myriad imps and devils is something that’s enjoyable for me to tap into in my artwork.
In this case, I was imagining a pair of undead soldiers accompanied by a lich, and I wanted to portray them drawing strength from the worship of their demonic overlord.
Naturally, this type of imagery is also heavily influenced by old school metal music for me, as it often incorporates themes of fantasy and Satanism. While inking this drawing, I used faster, more vigorous strokes to give the finished image a rougher and more energetic quality. This reflects the sound of the ’80s Underground Metal I was listening to at the time as well as the chaotic nature of the figures this drawing depicts.
My everyday drawings are available for sale in my Big Cartel shop each morning at 11 am EST. For the first 100 days, each new drawing is available for a price equal to its number in the sequence. That means Everyday 003 – Wraiths is listed at $3.00. Shop for prints and original art here.
