The goblin king — feeble by the standards of a true king but nonetheless vile — is dead. His head now rests among a collection of fruit, rotting away like the other pieces of organic matter disconnected from their life source. Someone, it seems, is celebrating.
On the day I drew this piece I’d been listening to my playlist of ’80s Underground / Old School Metal, and one song in particular had worked its way into my mind: Helstar’s “The King is Dead.” As I sat drawing, James Rivera’s voice insistently repeated, “The king is dead, the king is dead!” I was having a bit of creative block that day and began sketching without a clear idea of where the drawing was going, and I allowed the music to inform the imagery developing in front of me.
My everyday drawings are available for sale in my Big Cartel shop each morning at 11 am EST. For the first 100 days, each new drawing increases in price by $1.00, starting at $1.00 on day one. Everyday 009 – The King is Dead is listed at $9.00.
